How Zebra Printers Work
The zebra printer is a command-controlled printer that requires programming commands to create an image on the labels. Some programs can produce the printer language and are compatible with the printer without the need for a Windows driver. The Windows driver is needed when a program generates window metadata that must be changed to the printer language using a Zebra Windows driver. The program can output the printer's native command language which is ZPL, EPL or CPCL when the label image was created. Use generic text or driver to send data to the printer
ZPL - Zebra Programming Language EPL - Eltron Programming Language CPCL - Comtec Printer Control Language SGD - Set-Get-Do Zebra printer and PostSort PostSort supports printers with Zebra command language like the old version ELP, and the new ZPL. In PssSetup.ini change to Model=2 for EPL or Model=3 for ZPL. You can use Zebra's thermal printers, such as LP2844, which support EPL to print self-adhesive labels. Installation Distribute the printer 1.Exit the PostSort Sort. 2.Make sure the printer is installed correctly in Windows. 3.Adjustments such as label size change only in printer settings. 4.Split the printer with a resource name such as LP2844 (no spaces in the name).
Open the PssSetup.ini file. 1.Find PssSetup.ini here. 2.In PostSort there are two choices of labels, Self-Adhesive & Paper. a.If the "Paper" print should be written against the Zebra printer: i.Search for [PaperLabelPrinter] and put Model=2 a.If the "Adhesive" print should be written against the Zebra printer: i.Search for [GlueLabelPrinter] and put Model=2 a.Also check the following value in the same section: UseAnsi=1 1.Save and close the file. Settings Start PostSort Sorting. Go to Settings >PC Printers
In case of problems Clear all lines other than these below in PssSetup.ini. I.e. there are some InitString=Xxxx, StartX= etc so remove them. Then save the file. Open PostSort and go into the settings and save. Reopen PssSetup.ini and PostSort has set the default values.
If the printout needs to be moved down on the label, this can be done in PssSetup.ini. 1.Under [GlueLabelPrinter], you can adjust the top margin with StartY=0. a.For example, change the value to 20, save. b.Restart PostSort if the program is running. c.Make a sample printout. 1.If adjustment is needed, redo points 1a-1c and change the value StartY= until the print is correct. If the printer supports ZPL and not EPL, you are forced to also change UseAnsi =0 as it otherwise does not write åäö correctly. You also have to hand out the printer (like Zebra), so that PostSort can connect directly to the printer.
